Spiral Winner Dubai Sky Sidelined With Injury

Dubai Sky, winner of the March 21 Horseshoe Casino Cincinnati Spiral Stakes (gr. III), is off the Triple Crown trail after sustaining a cannon bone fracture in his left hind leg April 4.

The injury occured during a routine gallop at Churchill Downs, where the Bill Mott trainee was stabled for owners Three Chimneys Farm and Besilu Stables, according to Three Chimneys vice chairman Doug Cauthen.

"He has recovered from surgery and is resting comfortably," Cauthen said. "Dr. (Larry) Bramlage surgically repaired a fracture in his left hind cannon. It occurred this morning during a routine gallop. Prognosis is good. A full report will go out later with all details."

Dubai Sky jumped up to take the Spiral by 2 1/4 lengths on the Polytrack at Turfway Park after acing the Jan. 24 Kitten's Joy Stakes on the turf at Gulfstream Park, both part of a four-race win streak. The Candy Ride   colt, bred by Besilu from the Chester House mare House of Danzing, is a full brother to grade I winner Twirling Candy   and had been a late Triple Crown nominee.
