The $1 million Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint (G1) was reduced to a cozy group of five starters Nov. 2 when Estilo Talentoso  was scratched from the Nov. 6 stakes at Del Mar due to a problem with her right fore leg.

Trained by Juan Arriagada, the 4-year-old daughter of Maclean's Music   was third Oct 9 in the Thoroughbred Cub of America Stakes (G2), losing by a neck and a head.

The grade 3 winner has three wins and nice seconds with earnings of $532,538 in 17 career starts for an ownership group that now includes Medallion Racing, Barry Fowler, Parkland Thoroughbreds, Little Red Feather Racing, and BlackRidge Stables.

With the defection of Estilo Talentoso, who was listed at 12-1 on the morning line, the field for the seven-furlong Filly & Mare Sprint was reduced to just five starters, matching the smallest field ever for a Breeders' Cup race. In 2012, Hightail   beat four rivals in the now defunct Breeders' Cup Juvenile Sprint.

Michael Lund Petersen's Gamine , who won last year's Filly & Mare Sprint for trainer Bob Baffert, was set as a 3-5 morning-line favorite but figures to be an even lower price by the 12:05 p.m. Pacific post time Saturday.
