Thunder Love , a 2-year-old daughter of Profitable with five starts in England, is the first of two also-eligibles entered in the $1 million Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint (G2T) Nov. 5 at Del Mar. But if there are no scratches, the George Boughey trainee has another option on the card against older rivals.
The $200,000 Senator Ken Maddy Stakes was opened to fillies and mares 2 years old and up this year. Thunder Love is the only juvenile among the 10 entries in the five-furlong turf dash. The rest of the contestants are all aged 4 or 5.
Campaigned by AMO Racing USA, Thunder Love debuted in late March and won her first two starts on the all-weather course at Kempton Park. She then won the Julia Graves Roses Stakes (non-black-type) at York before off-the-board efforts in group company. The youngster is the co-longest shot on the morning line with odds of 20-1. If she runs in the Maddy, Florent Geroux will have the mount from post 6.
The morning-line favorite is Ramona and Perry Bass' Superstition at 3-1. The 4-year-old Ghostzapper filly won the restricted Wishing Well Stakes at Santa Anita Park in February and the Daisycutter Handicap, over the same course and distance as the Maddy, in July. Last out, Superstition finished fourth in the Sept. 11 Mint Ladies Sprint (G3T) at Kentucky Downs. The Richard Mandella trainee drew post 8 and will have Flavien Prat in the irons.
