Grade 1 winner Hit the Road , one of the top California-based contenders for the $2 million Breeders' Cup FanDuel Mile Presented by PDJF (G1T) at Del Mar Nov. 6, has been withdrawn after spiking a fever, according to trainer Dan Blacker.
The scratch of the More Than Ready colt allows also-eligible Real Appeal to draw into the race.
"Sad to report we have to scratch Hit the Road from Breeders' Cup as he has a fever," Blacker tweeted Nov. 5. "So disappointed for his great group of owners. Unbelievably bad timing and bad luck. We will get him healthy, regroup and point for the next race."
Campaigned by D K Racing, Radley Equine, Taste of Victory Stables, Rick Gold, Tony Maslowski, and Dave Oldmark, 4-year-old Hit the Road last ran third in the Oct. 2 City of Hope Mile Stakes (G2T) at Santa Anita Park. He won the Thunder Road Stakes (G3T) and Frank E. Kilroe Mile Stakes (G1T) earlier this year at Santa Anita.
