Airdrie Stud's Biogenic sired his first winner Nov. 5 when Biogenico rolled to a 3 1/4-length victory in the third race at Camarero Racetrack in Puerto Rico.
Biogenico, owned by Caminante Racing and trained by Edwin Diaz Jr., was purchased for $10,000 at this year's Ocala Breeders' Sales June 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale. The colt, favored in his third career outing, took command past the half-mile pole and widened his lead to the wire. The six furlongs was timed in 1:13.93 on a fast main track.
Bred in Kentucky by Bereton C. Jones, also the owner and breeder of Biogenic, Biogenico is the third winner produced from the Proud Citizen mare Hidatsa. The 13-year-old mare is the dam of stakes placed Hidatsa Park (Divine Park) and is a full sister to graded stakes winner and $398,869 earner Motovato .
First crop sire Biogenic is regally bred, being a son of three-time leading North American sire Tapit and Canadian Horse of the Year Biofuel . In addition to Biofuel, Biogenic's second dam Ms. Cornstalk (Indian Charlie) produced Canadian champion 2-year-old filly Tu Endei Wei (Johar). Campaigned by Jones during his racing career, the handsome gray failed to find the winner's circle in three starts after suffering a shoulder injury in the paddock as a young horse.
Biogenic entered stud in 2018 and stands at Airdrie Stud for a private fee.
