Greg Goodman of Mt. Brilliant Farm had his eyes on only three mares at Book 1 of the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale Nov. 10. He waited until the near end to secure Look Me Over , a half sister to recent TVG Breeders' Cup Juvenile Presented by Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance (G1) winner Corniche , for $1.2 million.
Despite missing the session topper, Paris Lights , who sold for $3.1 million to Spendthrift Farm only four hips later, Goodman was happy to take home his new 4-year-old Hard Spun filly and congratulated Spendthrift general manager Ned Toffey when leaving the ring inside the pavilion.
Hunter Valley Farm, agent, consigned Look Me Over as Hip 223 in the supplemental catalog. She was sold in foal to Kitten's Joy .
"We had three horses all day that we liked: this last one we couldn't afford, the one we bought, and then the one that went for $1.4 (million, Satin And Silk, Hip 13)," Goodman said. "But we loved her. She was our first choice all day and we're just happy to get her."
Look Me Over was bred in Kentucky by Bart Evans and Stonehaven Steadings out of Wasted Tears , a multiple graded stakes-winning daughter of Najran who earned $941,463 and also produced stakes-placed Coffee Crush . Amy N. Moore previously purchased Look Me Over for $235,000 from Stonehaven Steadings' consignment to the 2018 Keeneland September Yearling Sale.
The filly was sent to trainer Michael Matz by Moore, but began racing for Qatar Racing with trainer Brendan Walsh this spring. She collected a 2-1-4 record from 14 starts and earned $129,867 throughout her career. In her last start, she made her stakes debut in the Aug. 8 Kentucky Downs TVG Preview Ladies Mile Stakes at Ellis Park and finished fourth beaten only a length.
Goodman said a stallion to breed Look Me Over to has yet to be decided.
Corniche was a $1.5 million purchase by Speedway Stables from de Meric's consignment at this year's Ocala Breeders' Sales Spring Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training. The Quality Road colt is now undefeated in three starts, with wins in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile and American Pharoah Stakes (G1).
Goodman had a connection to Look Me Over's female family as Mt. Brilliant's bloodstock advisor, Marette Farrell, also helps source horses for Speedway Stables.
"Marette bought Corniche and she kept up with him and we all know now after Saturday he's a great horse and maybe a Derby horse. We're really happy to get her," Goodman said of Look Me Over. "She's beautiful and she's literally one of three mares that we were even interested in at all."
