Sea The Moon Voted Germany's Horse of Year

Sea The Moon  , an 11-length winner of the last year's Deutsches Derby (Ger-I) to cap a four-race unbeaten streak, was announced as Germany's Horse of the Year of 2014 during a ceremony at Hoppegarten racecourse April 5, Racing Post reports.
 
From the first crop of  Sea The Stars, Sea The Moon raced five times overall, closing his career with a runner-up finish to Ivanhowe in the Longines Grosser Preis von Baden (Ger-I), after which it was determined he had injured himself in the German Derby two months earlier. He was retired to Lanwades Stud in Newmarket to stand his first season this year.
 
Sea The Moon, who was trained by Markus Kluge for owner/breeder Gestut Gorlsdorf, garnered 42% of the public's vote to claim the Horse of the Year title. Second in the voting was Emirates Melbourne Cup (Aus-I) winner Protectionist (by Monsun) at 39%, and third was two-time group I winner Ivanhowe (Soldier Hollow) with 19% of the vote.
