Jackie's Warrior wins the H. Allen Jerkens Memorial Stakes at Saratoga Race Course
Aside from Silver State , who begins a stud career at Claiborne Farm in 2022, Steve Asmussen's five other Breeders' Cup competitors will continue racing next year, the trainer said.
Asmussen, who turned 56 Nov. 18, said Snapper Sinclair , sixth in the Big Ass Fans Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile (G1), is a possible starter in the Cigar Mile Handicap (G1) Dec. 4 at Aqueduct Racetrack. His other Breeders' Cup starters—Clairiere , Max Player , Echo Zulu , and Jackie's Warrior —are set to return in 2022, the latter after having a chip removed from his left knee by noted orthopedic surgeon Dr. Larry Bramlage. The multiple grade 1-winning son of Maclean's Music , owned by Kirk and Judy Robison, ran sixth in the Nov. 6 Qatar Racing Breeders' Cup Sprint (G1) at Del Mar.
Daily Racing Form initially reported the surgery.
"He was operated on by Dr. Bramlage on Friday. All the indications are very good from him," Asmussen said. "We will X-ray him at his recommendation before we put him back into training and see how that goes."
Echo Zulu romps in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies
at Del Mar
L and N Racing and Winchell Thoroughbreds' Echo Zulu, who capped an unbeaten season with a front-running score in the NetJets Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) will stable at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots after a freshening.
"Our two previous (Kentucky) Oaks (G1) winners wintered there," the Hall of Fame trainer said, referring to Summerly (2005) and Untapable (2014).
The key races for 3-year-old fillies there are the Rachel Alexandra Stakes Presented by Fasig-Tipton (G2) Feb. 19 and the Twinspires.com Fair Grounds Oaks (G2) March 26.
