Europeans rule the small field of five assembled for the Nov. 25 $100,000 Red Carpet Handicap (G3T) at Del Mar. Three of the entries were bred in Europe while a fourth, LNJ Foxwoods' Luck , made all but the last two of her six starts in France. The Red Carpet, held over the marathon distance of 1 3/8 on the turf course for fillies and mares aged 3 years old and up, is the feature event on Del Mar's special Thanksgiving Day card.
The 4-year-old Kitten's Joy filly won two allowance level events in France before failing to stay the 1 1/2-mile distance of the listed Prix Bedel in May. Sent overseas to the barn of California-based trained Richard Baltas, Luck aced her Aug. 7 North American debut, rallying from the back of the pack to win an allowance race at Del Mar going away. In her previous start, the chestnut launched another powerful bid late bid only to be denied a head at the wire by Going to Vegas in the Oct. 2 Rodeo Drive Stakes (G1T) at Santa Anita Park.
Luck secures the services of Flavien Prat for the Red Carpet.
She will be challenged by multiple graded/group stakes-winning route specialist Neige Blanche , recent Swingtime Stakes victress England's Rose , East Coast invader Single Soul , and the American Pharoah filly Nicest , who makes her debut for trainer Michael McCarthy after being classic-placed in Ireland under the care of Donnacha O'Brien.
