Souper Stonehenge defeats Pink Lloyd in the Vigil Stakes at Woodbine

Pink Lloyd 's send-off before his retirement to LongRun is anything but a gimme. The crack sprinter, one of Canada's most decorated champions, faces a top cast in the CA$175,000 Kennedy Road Stakes (G2) Nov. 27 at Woodbine.

The six-furlong race drew many of the top short-distance runners in the region Saturday, including Live Oak Plantation's uncoupled entry of Tap It to Win  and Souper Stonehenge , both trained by Hall of Famer Mark Casse. Souper Stonehenge is favored at 8-5, followed by Pink Lloyd at 5-2 and Tap It to Win at 5-1.

Campaigned by Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame inductee Robert Tiller, 9-year-old Pink Lloyd is set to chase his 29th career stakes victory in the Kennedy Road, a race that he won in 2017 and 2019. He was Canada's Horse of the Year in 2017. His trophy haul includes four consecutive (2017-20) champion male sprinter trophies and a pair of champion older male titles in 2017 and 2019.

This year, Pink Lloyd (Old Forester  ) is 2-2-0 in four starts. His two runner-up finishes in 2021 were behind Souper Stonehenge in graded company in the Vigil Stakes (G3) and Jacques Cartier Stakes (G3).

Pink Lloyd has since won the Bold Venture Stakes (G3) and Ontario Jockey Club Stakes, while Souper Stonehenge remained idle.
