Valor Farm in Pilot Point, Texas, announced Dec. 2 the addition of Shoplifted and Gold Double to its stallion roster for 2022.
Shoplifted, a son of multiple leading North American sire Into Mischief , is a three-time grade 1-placed stakes winner. He ran second in the Runhappy Hopeful Stakes (G1) in his second start after a debut second at Saratoga Race Course and ended his juvenile season with a win in the Remington Springboard Mile Stakes at Remington Park. At 3, he had third-place finishes in the Woody Stephens Stakes Presented by Claiborne Farm (G1) and H. Allen Jerkens Stakes Presented by Runhappy (G1).
Bred in Kentucky by Machmer Hall's Carrie and Craig Brogden, Shoplifted was bought by Zayat Stables for $525,000 as a yearling and then resold to Cromwell Bloodstock for $800,000 out of the McKathan Bros. consignment at Fasig-Tipton's 2019 The Gulfstream Sale, its select 2-year-olds in training sale. The colt earned $583,635 racing for owners Grandview Equine, Cheyenne Stable, and LNJ Foxwoods and trainer Steve Asmussen.
Shoplifted was retired from racing after finishing a close second to graded stakes winner Dennis' Moment in an allowance optional claiming race at Keeneland in October. The 4-year-old is out of the winning Yes It's True mare Shopit , a half sister to 2005 grade 2-placed stakes winner Fifth Avenue and out of the family of grade 2 winner and sire Trappe Shot . Shoplifted will stand for $5,000.
Gold Double is a winning son of Medaglia d'Oro out of grade 2-placed, grade 3 stakes winner Fiftyshadesofgold . A homebred for Valor Farm's owner Douglas Scharbauer, Gold Double will stand for $1,000.
Racing at 3 and 4, Gold Double hit the board in all five of his career starts, including a maiden win at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots for trainer Bret Calhoun. The colt brings a powerful pedigree to the Texas breeding program as the only known son of Medaglia d'Oro standing in the state and out of a female family that reflects the long successful history of Valor Farm.
Fiftyshadesofgold is a Clarence Scharbauer Jr. homebred who earned $420,521 in nine starts with wins in the 2013 Debutante Stakes and 2014 Eight Belles Stakes (G3) at Churchill Downs and a runner-up finish in the Fair Grounds Oaks (G2). She was named 2014 Texas Horse of the Year and champion 3-year-old filly.
Scharbauer bred Fiftyshadesofgold by his farm's My Golden Song , a perennial leading Texas sire, out of the winning Hadif daughter Hadif Cat . Hadif helped establish Valor Farm by becoming a regular top-10 Texas sire from the late 1990s through the early 2000s. Hadif Cat also produced Texas Stallion Stakes winners Sword Trick and Tastefullyxcessive . Gold Double's female line traces back to multiple grade 1-placed, grade 2 winner Alysbelle, a full sister to the 1987 Kentucky Derby (G1) winner, Horse of the Year, and Hall of Famer Alysheba, who was campaigned by Douglas Scharbauer's mother, Dorothy, and sister, Pamela.
