Poseidon's Warrior Relocated to Texas' Century Acres

Poseidon's Warrior , a grade 1 winner and sire of grade 1 winner and multi-millionaire Firenze Fire , is being relocated from Pennsylvania to Century Acres in Hempstead, Texas, for the upcoming breeding season in a deal brokered by Jamie LaMonica and Brenden Heeney, Century Acres announced Dec. 17.

Poseidon's Warrior will stand the 2022 season for $3,500 with a stands and nurses guarantee.

Century Acres, owned by Teo Mallet and David Ranslem, is a 100-acre farm that formerly was part of Lane's End's Texas operation that stood top Texas sires Valid Expectations  and Too Much Bling  .

Campaigned and owned by Tom McGrath's Swilcan Stable, Poseidon's Warrior is a son of prominent sire and emerging sire of sires Speightstown  . He is out of the winner and multiple stakes-producing Smarten mare Poised to Pounce and is bred on the same cross as leading sire Smart Strike. Plans call for Poseidon's Warrior to be syndicated with limited shares offered to breeders.

Firenze Fire, a nine-time graded stakes winner, put Poseidon's Warrior atop Florida's leading freshman sire standings of 2017 by defeating eventual 2-year-old champion Good Magic   in the Champagne Stakes (G1) and by winning the Sanford Stakes (G3). He went on to win consecutive editions of the True North Stakes (G2) in 2020-21, the 2020 Vosburgh Stakes (G2), and four other grade 3 stakes. For his career to date, 6-year-old Firenze Fire has won 14 races and earned more than $2.7 million.

Poseidon's Warrior has sired 115 winners so far, including other stakes winners Navy Commander and multiple stakes winner Warrior's Pride, who set a 5 1/2-furlong track record of 1:03.99 at Gulfstream Park West. Poseidon's Warrior progeny include multiple stakes-placed winner Splicethemainbrace, and stakes-placed winners Powerful Venezuela , Poseidon's Passion , Advocate Harbor , and Primal Destiny . The stallion progeny have earned more than $8.4 million or nearly $47,000 per starter.

Winner of Saratoga's Alfred G. Vanderbilt Handicap (G1) at 4, running a 117 Equibase Speed Figure, Poseidon's Warrior won seven races, five of them stakes, by a combined 31 lengths. In addition to winning the Vanderbilt, he also captured the Monmouth Park NATC Futurity at Monmouth by seven lengths at 2, the East Hanover Stakes and the Le Bagoter Stakes at 3, and the Fabulous Strike Handicap at 4 en route to career earnings of $701,147 for Swilcan Stable. Poseidon's Warrior also finished a good third in the 2012 Vosburgh Invitational Stakes (G1) after leading the field through brisk fractions of :22.57, :45.06, and :56.91.
