Sumner Patrick Terry, who once served as president of the former Thoroughbred Record and was involved in racing as an owner and breeder, died Dec. 14.
A Lexington attorney, Terry and several partners purchased the Thoroughbred Record magazine in 1980. Terry moved to Poplar Hill Farm, where he enjoyed hosting overseas turf writers in town for sales at Keeneland and Fasig-Tipton Kentucky. As president of the Thoroughbred Record, Terry attempted to build international interest in the publication and enjoyed overseas racing trips.
Terry would later serve as vice president of Domino Stud Farm under the ownership of Ken T. Jones.
Terry is survived by his wife, Barbara, two brothers, Warren (Dianne) and Tim (Flo); his three children, Laura Marie, Terry Bruder (Barry Bruder), Kevin Patrick Terry (Michele LaCroix Terry), and Lea Theresa Terry; five grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A public visitation is planned 5-8 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 30 Milward-Man O'War located at 1509 Trent Blvd. A private service and interment will be held for the family.
