Nuestro Engreido breaks his maiden at Golden Gate Fields

Nuestro Engreido  became the first winner for stallion Cat Burglar   Dec. 31, pressing the pace and advancing two wide to defeat California-bred 2-year-olds in a $39,900 maiden race at Golden Gate Fields.

The victorious chestnut colt scored by 3 1/4 lengths in the ninth race Friday under Ruben Fuentes for trainer Felix Rondan, who co-owns him with Ruben Arechiga. Just a day before turning 3, the winner raced 5 1/2 furlongs on Tapeta in 1:04.38, paying $30.20.

Bred in California by Richard Barton Enterprises and Robert Traynor, Nuestro Engreido is out of the North Light  mare Just Heavenly . He was a $1,000 purchase by his trainer from the California Thoroughbred Breeders Association's 2020 Northern California Yearling and Horses of Racing Age Sale, where Barton Thoroughbreds consigned him.

Cat Burglar, a newly-turned 12-year-old son of Unbridled's Song , stands at Barton Thoroughbreds in Santa Ynez, Calif., for a $2,500 fee in 2022. Another chestnut, Cat Burglar was a stakes winner of $538,720 who placed in numerous graded stakes. He raced from ages 3 to 8.

From his first crop of runners, four have started. Besides Nuestro Engreido, who has earnings of $49,566 with a 1-1-2 record in nine starts, Westcoast Gangster  has placed for the sire, finishing a debut second in his lone start at Los Alamitos Race Course during that track's Thoroughbred summer meet
