Mike Piazza's Breeze Rider collected her first two stakes victories in her last two starts and now looks to add a third straight one to her résumé in the $150,000 Pippin Stakes Jan. 8 at Oaklawn Park.
The 5-year-old Paynter mare battled on the front end to a neck victory in the Nov. 25 Joseph R. Peluso Memorial Stakes at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots, then wired the Dec. 11 My Charmer Stakes at Turfway Park for a 4 3/4-length win. Both of those scores came at 1 1/16 miles, while she'll race a mile in the Pippin. Jockey E. T. Baird has the mount from post 2 for trainer Steve Manley.
Kueber Racing's Coach will try to continue her winning comeback in the Pippin. The 4-year-old Commissioner filly rallied to win by two lengths in the mud Dec. 17 when taking an allowance optional claimer at Oaklawn. It was her first start since an off-the-board finish in the Longines Kentucky Oaks (G1). She was third in the Fantasy Stakes (G3) at Oaklawn last spring. Trainer Brad Cox has given Ricardo Santana Jr. the mount. Coach will break from the rail in the seven-horse field.
The Pippin also includes Miss Bigly , a restricted stakes winner at Del Mar over the summer who has placed in two graded stakes since, and last-out Oaklawn allowance winner Itsallinthenotes .
