Li'l Tootsie surges home to a Dec. 10 allowance optional claiming race at Oaklawn Park

After trying the turf and a handful of two-turn events in her 11-start career, Joel Politi's Li'l Tootsie  appears to have found her niche sprinting on the dirt. The Thomas Amoss trainee has notched two back-to-back one turn allowance victories since November, with each race exhibiting the filly's sharp turn of foot down the lane. In the $150,000 American Beauty Stakes being run Jan. 22 over six furlongs for fillies and mares aged 4-years-old and up at Oaklawn Park, Li'l Tootsie tackles a competitive field of eight other rivals in the quest for her first black-type win.

The 4-year-old daughter of Tapiture   has already defeated two of her American Beauty opponents when Alex and JoAnn Lieblong's Abrogate  and the Bret Calhoun-trained Ain't No Elmers  played second billing to Li'l Tootsie in her recent allowance scores at Oaklawn and Churchill Downs, respectively. Shipping up from Amoss' Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots home base for Saturday's race, Li'l Tootsie will be ridden by jockey Geovanni Franco from the 1 post.

A majority of the American Beauty field has already met once or twice, which should make for an interesting betting race. The consistent Perfect Happiness , runner-up to the opposing Wildwood's Beauty  in a Jan. 2 allowance optional claimer at Hot Springs, is also seeking her first stakes tally from the Brad Cox barn. Two starts back, she got the better of the front-running Sarah Harper  when earning a career-best 102 Equibase Speed Figure in a Dec. 12 allowance optional claimer at Oaklawn.
