The Thoroughbred Education and Research Foundation is pleased to award $4,000 to the MidAtlantic Horse Rescue for educational purposes.
MAHR's mission is to rescue thoroughbreds from feedlots and kill pens and transition horses directly off the track. After quarantine and careful evaluation, horses are adopted into loving homes as sport horses and pets.
In alignment with their mission to support and promote equine education by supporting organizations that are educating the public on the proper care of horses, TERF offers their financial assistance in 2021. MAHR plans to continue their thoroughbred-only clinic series at the farm with well-known professionals. These clinics are free for MAHR graduates and low-cost for all other thoroughbreds. This gives incentives to adopters to adopt a thoroughbred from MAHR, as well as giving MAHR the opportunity to see adopted horses and their new owners on a regular basis. It also spotlights the many wonderful qualities of thoroughbreds as sport horses.
TERF's grants reflect the values set forth by founders Herb and Ellen Moelis. TERF's current Board includes co-chairs Kathleen Anderson , and James Orsini, Margaret H. Duprey, Gretchen and Roy Jackson, Ellen and Herb Moelis, Wendy Moon, Anita Motion, Toni Orsini, Scott Palmer VMD, Josh Pons, Lucy Zungailia, Katelyn Jackson, and Lynn Cassimeris.
