Country House's first reported foal, a colt out of American Values
Darby Dan Farm's Country House , winner of the 2019 Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve (G1), sired his first reported foal when a colt out of the City Zip mare American Values was born Jan. 25 at Scarteen Stud.
Bred by Maury Shields, the colt is the mare's first foal and hails from the family of graded stakes winner Love's Exchange . American Values' dam, Curlin N Twirlin (by Curlin ), is a half sister to multiple graded stakes-placed winner Wacky for Love and stakes-placed Missgallopinggulch .
Bred by the late Joseph "Jerry" V. Shields, Country House earned more than $2.1 million while being campaigned by Maury Shields, nephew Guinness McFadden of Blackwood Stables, and LNJ Foxwoods. Hall of Famer Bill Mott trained the colt who became a winner in his first start at 3 at Gulfstream Park and followed with a second to eventual Preakness Stakes (G1) winner War of Will in the Risen Star Stakes Presented by Lamarque Ford (G2) at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots. In his final prep before the Kentucky Derby, Country House finished a determined third behind Omaha Beach and Improbable in the Arkansas Derby (G1) at Oaklawn Park.
Country House is by multiple champion and classic winner Lookin At Lucky and out of the War Chant mare Quake Lake, a half sister to grade 1-placed, grade 3 winner Breaking Lucky . Country House stands this year for an advertised fee of $7,500.
