Santin wins an allowance race in 2021at Keeneland

Florida-stabled trainers have shipped promising grass horses to Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots in recent years for the Muniz Memorial Classic Stakes (G2T), a race won in 2021 by Colonel Liam  and Bricks and Mortar  two years before.

This year, horses from the Sunshine State have arrived early for the local Muniz prep—the $150,000 Fair Grounds Stakes (G3T). Santin , Adhamo , and Largent  have trained in South Florida this winter, with Santin and Adhamo at Palm Meadows Training Center and Largent at Palm Beach Downs.

The Chad Brown-trained Adhamo and Todd Pletcher-trained Largent are group/graded winners, and Santin was runner-up in the Hollywood Derby (G1T) at Del Mar for trainer Brendan Walsh in his last start Nov. 27.

A homebred 4-year-old son of Distorted Humor  owned by Godolphin, Santin won his first two starts, coming at Horsehoe Indianapolis and Keeneland, before rallying to miss by a neck in the Hollywood Derby when matched against stakes 3-year-olds. His Hollywood Derby performance came from post 14.

The Fair Grounds Stakes also includes grade 1 winners Two Emmys  and Point Me By , both of whom captured major stakes last summer during the final season of racing at Arlington International Racecourse.

Two Emmys , upset winner of the Mr. D. Stakes (G1T) at Arlington International Race Course, was third this winter over the Fair Grounds course Jan. 22, running just behind Forty Under  and Halo Again . All three are back Saturday.
