As racing fans gear up for the Kentucky Derby, many of us reflect back on previous editions of the race. One of the most popular wins of the last few years was Orb winning the Kentucky Derby for Stuart Janney, the Phipps family and Shug McGaughey.
But where are all of the runners from that Kentucky Derby now? Let's take a look, in order of 2013 Kentucky Derby finish.

Post-Derby racing success: Won a 2014 allowance and was second in the 2014 New Orleans Handicap.
What he’s doing now: Preparing for his 2015 return to the races after suffering an injury.
What the connections had to say: "Normandy Invasion had his first breeze this morning after returning from his injury. He went an easy eighth [of a mile]. He looked great doing it, and came off the track looking marvelous with his neck bowed," Fox Hill Farm's Victoria Keith said on the stable's Facebook page on April 6.
Fun Facts: Normandy Invasion has finished second in a graded stakes in each of his three seasons on the track for more than $500,000 in earnings. He also set a new track record at Gulfstream Park in his first start as a 4-year-old, racing a mile in 1:33.13.
Mylute

Oxbow

Pedigree: Awesome Again - Tizamazing, by Cee's Tizzy
Owners: Calumet Farm
Trainer: D. Wayne Lukas
Post-Derby racing success: Won the Preakness and was second in the Belmont Stakes.
What he’s doing now: Standing at Calumet Farm; his first foals were born this year.
What the connections had to say: "He’s doing great, he’s filled in and looks more like a stallion and is enjoying his new career and we couldn’t be happier with him. It’s a long haul from racing to beginning as a sire and then seeing them do well at the racetrack, the progeny, it’s a long process but this is the fun part when you first see the first foals and they’re all undefeated this time of the year," said Ken Wilkins, Calumet's stallion director. "We’re thrilled with the first foals, very, very nice foals. We supported the horse, as we do with all the stallions, with some of our own mares and we’re very happy with the foals. He bred over 100 mares last year and he’s going to breed probably more than he did last year so he’s been popular and we’re very excited to see what he can do.
Fun Facts: Oxbow was the eighth horse to win the Preakness under the Calumet name and is the first Preakness Stakes winner to stand at Calumet since Tim Tam, who won the 1958 Kentucky Derby and Preakness.
Lines of Battle

Pedigree: War Front - Black Speck, by Arch

Fun Facts: After he was sold to Hong Kong in late 2013, Lines of Battle’s name was changed to Helene Super Star. The gelding has found success in his new barn and finished a close second to Hong Kong Horse of the Year Designs on Rome in his latest start.

Fun Facts: Overanalyze was a graded stakes winner at both two and three after selling for $380,000 as a yearling. Owned by Repole Stable, he was a 3-year-old at the same time as Repole’s Micromanage. Am I the only one who senses a theme here?
Palace Malice

Pedigree: Curlin - Palace Rumor, by Royal Anthem
Owners: Dogwood Stable, now co-owned by Three Chimneys Farm
Trainer: Todd Pletcher
Post-Derby racing success: Won Belmont Stakes and Jim Dandy as a 3-year-old and Metropolitan Handicap, New Orleans Handicap, Gulfstream Park Handicap and Westchester Stakes as a 4-year-old.
What he’s doing now: Palace Malice is preparing for his 5-year-old debut. He will be in Florida until April 15, when he’ll ship to Todd Pletcher’s New York base in preparation for a start in the May 2 Westchester Stakes.
What the connections had to say: “The logic of the five-race campaign was easily determined by Three Chimneys, Dogwood and Todd Pletcher. The Westchester is the ideal Belmont prep for an appearance in the Grade 1 Metropolitan Mile, in which he defeated Goldencents, (the) two-time Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Mile winner this past year. We would follow with three Grade 1 stakes – the Whitney, early at Saratoga; the Jockey Club Gold Cup at Belmont in the fall; and the Breeders’ Cup Classic at Keeneland,” Cot Campbell, Dogwood’s President said on the partnership’s website.
Fun Facts: Palace Malice was from the first crop of two-time Horse of the Year Curlin and provided him with his first horse to hit the board in a U.S. classic. The following year, Curlin’s Ride On Curlin let him go 2-for-2 on having horses place in the top three in classic races.
Java’s War

Pedigree: War Pass - Java (GB), by Rainbow Quest
Owners: Charles Fipke
Trainer: Roger Attfield
Post-Derby racing success: Fourth in the Swap Stakes

Verrazano

Pedigree: More Than Ready - Enchanted Rock, by Giant's Causeway
Owners: Let’s Go Stable, Michael Tabor, Mrs. John Magnier, and Derrick Smith at the Kentucky Derby; Michael Tabor, Mrs. John Magnier, and Derrick Smith as a 4-year-old
Trainer: Todd Pletcher at the Kentucky Derby; Aidan O’Brien as a 4-year-old.
Post-Derby racing success: Won the Haskell Invitational and Pegasus Stakes, second in the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot, third in the Cigar Mile in New York and in the JLT Lockinge Stakes in England
What he’s doing now: Standing his first season at Coolmore’s Ashford Stud; his first foals arrive in 2016.
What the connections had to say: "Verrazano has been here since September [2014], and in that time has really let down into an imposing specimen,” said Dermot Ryan, Ashford’s manager. “He has been very well received by breeders and has settled into his routine very well and is working his way through a high-quality first book of mares. His pedigree and race record are certainly big draw cards, but the real icing on the cake has been that people have been very taken by his physique when they have come to see him at the farm. As a result, he will be very well supported this year.”
Fun Facts: Verrazano was undefeated going into the Kentucky Derby and that race was the only blemish on his record until August of his 3-year-old year. While he was slated to retire at the end of 2013, he was instead transferred to Coolmore’s Ireland-based trainer Aidan O’Brien and he did exceptionally well when finishing on-the-board in two prestigious one-mile turf races. He was the second foal to race for his dam Enchanted Rock and his year-older half-brother El Padrino also raced in the Kentucky Derby, finishing 13th in 2012.
Itsmyluckyday

Pedigree: Lawyer Ron - Viva La Slew, by Doneraile Court
Owners: Trilogy Stable and Laurie Plesa
Trainer: Eddie Plesa Jr.
Post-Derby racing success: Won the 2014 Woodward Stakes, Salvator Mile Stakes, Majestic Light Stakes, Best of the Rest Stakes, was second in the Preakness and Whitney Stakes, third in the Kelso Handicap
What he’s doing now: Standing his first season at Spendthrift Farm; his first foals arrive in 2016.
What the connections had to say: "He’s a very amazing horse in the fact that here’s a horse that fractured his pelvis and basically spent 90 days in a stall where he couldn’t lay down. To be able to recover from that, come back to the races and win a Grade 1 after that is quite a feat, so he’s a very special horse to us here on what he’s been able to accomplish. He’s done very well with the breeders; he’s going to breed around 140 mares this year. He’s doing very well getting his mares in foal, and we couldn’t be any happier with him," said Mark Toothaker, Spendthrift's stallion sales manager.
Fun Facts: Itsmyluckyday upset the previous year’s 2-year-old champion Shanghai Bobby in the 2013 Holy Bull Stakes and finished ahead of 2013 3-year-old champion Will Take Charge when finishing second in the 2014 Whitney Stakes. Itsmyluckyday made a good recovery from an injury suffered as a 3-year-old that forced him to miss the rest of that season and rebounded to win one Grade 1 and finish second in another as a 4-year-old.
Frac Daddy

Fun Facts: Bought for only $50,000 as a yearling, so far Frac Daddy has made mofe than $685,000 on the track. The horse has hit the board in 11 of his 18 races, including six stakes races and has won on all three surfaces in North America (dirt, synthetic, turf).
Goldencents

Pedigree: Into Mischief - Golden Works, by Banker's Gold
Owners: W.C Racing, Dave Kenney, and RAP Racing at the Kentucky Derby; W.C. Racing as a 4-year-old.
Trainer: Doug O’Neill
Post-Derby racing success: Won Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile (twice), Pat O’Brien Stakes, second in five other Grade 1 events and two other Grade 2 races
What he’s doing now: Standing his first season at Spendthrift Farm; his first foals arrive in 2016.
What the connections had to say: "He’s going to breed a heck of a book of mares this year, some really nice quality and we’ve had a tremendous amount of them check in foal already, so we’re extremely happy with how he’s settling in,” Toothaker said. “He was completely booked full the day of the Breeders’ Cup. When he won, that finished off his book, so he’s going to breed 170 mares this year and we had all of those done the day he won. He’s been a fan favorite, anybody that comes out to the farm, that’s the first thing they ask is ‘Can we see Goldencents?’ So he’s been extremely popular. He had a big following and still does on social media, [Doug O'Neill's social media manager] Sharla Rae … has continued to keep his Facebook page and Twitter active and we’ve tried to get them pictures. They’ve been out to the farm as well a couple of times since he’s arrived."
Fun Facts: Goldencents is the only horse to win the Breeders’ Cup Mile twice. His sire, Into Mischief, also stands at Spendthrift Farm and is a half-brother to two-time champion Beholder, who also is owned by Spendthrift.
Vyjack

Pedigree: Into Mischief - Life Happened, by Stravinsky
