Multiple graded stakes winner Saratoga Snacks , a fan favorite in his home state of New York, has been euthanized at ReRun due to metabolic issues, New York Thoroughbred Breeders reported Feb. 22.

The Tale of the Cat ridgling was campaigned for most of his 24-race career by Hall of Fame football coach Bill Parcells' August Dawn Farm. Trainer Gary Sciacca sent him to a 9-6-4 record with earnings of $693,500, all at New York tracks.

Saratoga Snacks was bred by Mrs. Gerald A. Nielsen out of the Red Ransom mare Near and Dear, and was consigned to the 2010 Fasig-Tipton Preferred New York Bred Yearling Sale by Summerfield. Sciacca, acting as agent, bought him for $60,000.

The striking bay won by two lengths going 6 1/2 furlongs on second asking at Saratoga Race Course. The following year he stretched out to 1 1/8 miles to finish second in the Empire Classic Stakes at Belmont Park and first in the Alex M. Robb Stakes at Aqueduct Racetrack at 1 1/16 miles. At 4 he captured the seven-furlong Shy Groom Stakes and the 1 1/8 mile Empire Classic within a four-month span. At 5, he was runner-up in the Whodam Stakes. His last year on the track at 6, he took the Saginaw Stakes and was second in the Evan Shipman Stakes and Alex M. Robb Stakes.

Upon his retirement in 2016, Saratoga Snacks became an equine ambassador at ReRun's Thoroughbred retraining and adoption center. He will be buried near former New York sire Frost Giant, who also passed away this year.
