Multiple stakes winner Saratoga Snacks , a fan favorite in his home state of New York, has been euthanized at ReRun due to metabolic issues, New York Thoroughbred Breeders reported Feb. 22. He was 13.

The Tale of the Cat  ridgling was campaigned for most of his 24-race career by Hall of Fame football coach Bill Parcells' August Dawn Farm. Trained by Gary Sciacca most of his career, Saratoga Snacks earned $693,500 from a 9-6-4 record.

Saratoga Snacks was bred by Mrs. Gerald Nielsen out of the Red Ransom mare Near and Dear and was consigned to the 2010 Fasig-Tipton New York-Bred Yearling Sale by Summerfield. Sciacca, agent, bought him for $60,000.

The bay won his first race in his second start at age 2 against state-breds at Saratoga Race Course. His first stakes victory came at 3 in the Alex M. Robb Stakes at Aqueduct Racetrack. The following year at 4 his best score came in the Classic Empire Handicap at Belmont Park and he also won the Shy Groom Stakes. At age 6 he added another stakes victory to his record in the Saginaw at Belmont.

Upon his retirement in 2016, Saratoga Snacks became an equine ambassador at ReRun's Thoroughbred retraining and adoption center. He will be buried near former New York sire Frost Giant, who also passed away this year.
