Second Quarantined Barn at Parx Cleared

Parx Racing said Dec. 4 the second of three barns that had been quarantined because of equine herpesvirus was cleared by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture.
Officials at the track said blood will be drawn from 30 horses in the third barn Dec. 5, with test results expected Dec. 10. The horses in the first quarantined barn were permitted to train and be entered for races Nov. 30.
Two barns were quarantined in mid-November as a result of a positive test for EHV-1. The general quarantine period for EHV-1 is a minimum of 21 days.
Despite the quarantine, Parx has been able to card eight races per day and hasn't canceled any programs. Two $75,000 South Carolina residency stakes—the Donna Freyer and Christopher Elser Memorial—scheduled for Nov. 17 will be raced Dec. 28, officials said.
Parx races on a Saturday-through-Tuesday schedule.
