Highlighted by a :20 2/5 quarter-mile workout from a daughter of Adios Charlie and a co-best :09 4/5 breeze over a furlong from a More Than Ready full brother to champion Rushing Fall , the Under Tack Show for the Ocala Breeders' Sales' 2022 March Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training continued March 11.
The last of three days of the Under Tack Show remains, postponed from March 12 to March 13 due to storms in the forecast Saturday.
The aforementioned Adios Charlie filly, the Ocala Stud-consigned Hip 213, was fastest of those that breezed two furlongs Friday. A Florida-bred out of the stakes-winning A. P Jet mare Travelator is related to the stakes-placed Sweetheart Deal (Kantharos ) and to a pair of black-type-producing fillies.
One of those stakes producers, Fantasy Forest (Forestry), is the dam of Last Judgment , winner of last year's Pimlico Special Match Series Stakes (G3), $100,000 Michelob Ultra Challenger Stakes (G3), and Sunshine Classic Stakes.
Two of the eight juveniles with :09 4/5 breezes Friday, a Carpe Diem colt (Hip 56) and a Bayern filly (180), had been originally scheduled to work Thursday but their breezes were delayed a day by rain.
Of the other six to work in :09 4/5, all colts, two are by More Than Ready (Hip 281, Hip 318), another by Into Mischief (Hip 257), and the remaining others are by Bolt d'Oro (Hip 291), Uncaptured (Hip 351), and Custom for Carlos (Hip 395).
Hip 281, consigned by Kings Equine and out of the Forestry mare Autumnal , is the noted relative to Rushing Fall, a multiple grade 1-winning earner of more than $2.8 million. Two other black-type horses produced from the dam include Milam and Autumn Song .
The Eddie Woods-consigned Hip 257 has sire power with Into Mischief, a three-time leading sire who shattered his own all-time single-season progeny earnings record in 2021. He stands for $250,000 at Spendthrift Farm in Kentucky.
Out of the unplaced Not For Love mare Zapara , Hip 257 is a half to Basso (Cairo Prince ), a debut winner at 2 who also placed in the 2020 Smoke Glacken Stakes at Monmouth Park.
A total of 635 juveniles are cataloged for the two-day sale at OBS, staged March 15-16, with both sessions beginning at 10:30 a.m. Hips 1-316 will sell Tuesday; Hips 317-635 Wednesday.
OBS March has produced 32 horses who have earned more than $1 million.
Three 2021 March graduates have been in the headlines this year, with Baoma Corp.'s Eda winning the Santa Ysabel Stakes (G3), C2 Racing Stable and La Milagrosa Stable's White Abarrio capturing the Holy Bull Stakes (G3), and Peter Cantrell's Call Me Midnight taking the Lecomte Stakes (G3). Eda is one of the top 3-year-old fillies in the country, and White Abarrio and Call Me Midnight are prospects for the Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve (G1).
