We the People wins a first-level allowance optional claiming race at Oaklawn

We the People  stamped himself as a likely stakes runner March 12, improving to 2-for-2 when he took a $106,000 first-level allowance optional claiming race by five lengths at Oaklawn Park

The 3-year-old son of Constitution   pressed the pace early in the 1 1/16-mile race, as Ruggs  splits of :23.88 and :48.70, before forging to the lead with six furlongs in 1:13.32. Then, as he did in his first-out maiden victory, he left the opposition behind. We the People ($2.80) stopped the clock in 1:43.66 under Florent Geroux on a fast track.

Saturday's race leaves the Rodolphe Brisset-trained We the People potentially in line to try a Road to the Kentucky Derby prep race before the final round of qualifying races wraps up in April.

WinStar Farm, Commonwealth Racing, and Siena Farm own We the People. Last year WinStar purchased him for $230,000 from The Gulfstream Sale, Fasig-Tipton's select sale of 2-year-olds in training, where Eddie Woods, as agent, sold him as part of the dispersal of the estate of Paul Pompa Jr.

The Henley Farms-bred colt is the lone winner from six foals produced from the unraced Tiznow mare Letchworth, a half sister to stakes winners Stratford Hill  (A. P. Indy) and Armistice Day  (Declaration of War ). We the People's second dam is grade 1 winner and $851,120 earner Harmony Lodge .

Letchworth's most recent foals include an Always Dreaming   2-year-old colt and an Audible   yearling colt.
