Fashion at the Races Calendar Benefits Aftercare

Description:

Chantal Sutherland-Kruse, a Southern California jockey and television personality, and champion Hansen participated in the 2014 Fashion at the Races Charity Calendar Project.

This year was a great one for us here at Fashion at the Races, and we cannot wait for the calendar to tick over and bring in 2014 and a whole new fresh racing season.

Speaking of calendars … we had an absolute ball this year on our Charity Calendar Project that we put together to help raise some much-needed dollars and also awareness for all the OTTBs (off-the-track Thoroughbreds) that exist out there today and need our support.

Fashion at the Races decided to get some of our industries finest stallions and mares to pose with some fabulous fashion and millinery designs at their new homes at stud or on the farm. The shoots were always fun and exciting, even if sometimes the models (equine not the human) decided they had other ideas on how things should go!

We were extremely lucky as well to have acquired the skills of Lexington-based photographer Joe Lyman, whose mixture of horse knowledge and photography skills allowed us to get some amazing shots! He was an instrumental part in making the calendar a fantastic success. The gorgeous Chantal Sutherland-Kruse was kind enough to pose with Hansen for us, too!

Our inaugural edition cover shot was awarded to the undisputed “Queen of Racing” Zenyatta, accompanied by the industries very own “Ms Racing Queen” Tatiana Schoeppler, and we were lucky enough to make it a family affair and include her new son by Tapit. Zenyatta was up against some pretty illustrious names when vying for the position; take a look below at some of the stars who grace the pages form January right through December.

Bodemeister, Big Brown, Uncle Mo, Hansen, Tiznow, Super Saver, Havre de Grace, Plum Pretty, Winter Memories, Bullet Train and, most importantly, our very own OTTB Red Valentino!

What we really loved was the willingness of the different farms and studs to allow us onto their property and to create some magical pictures with these very valuable equine stars. The studs and farms that we visited were more than accommodating and without that it would have been an impossible task, so we would really like to thank all of those listed below for the generosity and patience is helping us achieve what we think is a fantastic end product! So huge thanks goes out to the following fabulous locations and people:
Three Chimneys Farm (Jen Roytz), Lane’s End (Levana Capria), WinStar Farm (Chris Baker), Darby Dan Farm (Robert Hammond), Ashford/Coolmore (Malachy Ryan), Timber Town Stable (T. Wayne Sweezey), and Sean Feld for Bullet Train.

Bottom line, we have put together what we think is an amazing product that you’ll love looking at for the year of 2014. And most importantly, every purchase made allows us to donate $5 to the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance (TAA), which helps accredit the institutions around the country that take in OTTBs and retrain them for new careers or just help them find a new home after their race days are over.

Please help us by purchasing one for yourself or as a gift for someone else. It makes a great stocking stuffer for Christmas!
