Shahryar captures the Dubai Sheema Classic at Meydan

Shahyar continued the Japanese dominance of Dubai World Cup night March 26 with a determined victory in the $6 million Longines Dubai Sheema Classic (G1) at Meydan.

Running in the colors of Sunday Racing, Shahyrar settled into a stalking trip in third along the inside behind the pacesetting Authority. As the field turned for home, jockey Demuro Cristian tipped the son of Deep Impact into the three path and he battled past a stubborn Authority, prevailing over a fast-closing Yibir , who was widest of all in charge to the wire and was left with too much to do late in his 2022 debut.

Trained by Hideaki Fujiwara, Shahyar led a 1-3 finish for Japan.
