Spendthrift Farm's freshman sire Bolt d'Oro , the multiple grade 1 winner by Medaglia d'Oro , sired his first winner from his first starter April 13 when his 2-year-old colt Pop d'Oro captured a trial race gate-to-wire at Turf Paradise.
Breaking from the rail, the speedy colt shot to the lead and never looked back, proving best while stopping the clock in :52.03 seconds for 4 1/2 furlongs over a fast local main track.
Owned and trained by Jose Luna Silva, the colt was bred in Arizona by H & E Ranch and is out of the Unbridled's Song mare Just Like Pop . Three foals to start out of Just Like Pop are all winners. She foaled a Daredevil filly Feb. 6.
Bolt d'Oro's first crop of 2-year-olds have gotten off to a good start in 2022, as they've proved to be popular in the sales ring. From 15 to sell at the Ocala Breeders' Sales March Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training and Fasig-Tipton Gulfstream Selected 2-Year-Olds in Training sales, Bolt d'Oro juveniles are averaging $329,865, including a $1,200,000 sale-topper at the Fasig-Tipton Gulfstream sale last month.
At OBS March, the stallion had sales of $900,000, $600,000, and two at $400,000. Among those have been multiple bullet workers at the breeze shows, including one last Sunday on Day 1 of the OBS April 2-Year-Olds in Training under tack shows in Ocala.
Campaigned by Mick and Wendy Ruis, Bolt d'Oro began his career 3-for-3, including back-to-back wins in the Del Mar Futurity (G1) and FrontRunner Stakes (G1) in California.
