Speakers Announced for TOBA Seminar May 4 at Churchill

The Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association is hosting an Ownership Seminar May 4, at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky. Attendees will learn insights on different aspects of Thoroughbred ownership from industry professionals and enjoy a day of racing at Churchill Downs during the week of the Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve (G1).

The topics and speakers at the Ownership Seminar include:

  • Thoroughbred industry resources, presented by Susan Martin from The Jockey Club's Equineline,
  • Thoroughbred veterinary care: a veterinarian's perspective, presented by Dr. Russell Freeland, from Hagyard Equine Medical Institute, Davidson Surgery,
  • Acquiring and managing racehorses, presented by owner Mike Mackin with Lucky Seven Stable and trainer Kenny McPeek from McPeek Racing and Bloodstock,
  • Supporting non-profit organizations that work toward improving Thoroughbred racehorses and the people who care for them, presented by Thoroughbred Charities of America executive director Erin Halliwell,
  • Accreditation, inspection, and approved aftercare organizations, presented by Suzie Picou-Oldham with theThoroughbred Aftercare Alliance,
  • Equine insurance, presented by Tyler Clarke from Clay Ward Agency,
  • Legal aspects of racehorse ownership, presented by Sarah Reeves from Stoll Keenon Ogden
  • Handicapping 101 with a Longines Kentucky Oaks (G1) and Kentucky Derby preview, presented by Kaitlin Free

The cost of the seminar is $99 for TOBA members and $129 for non-members. Registration include meals, materials, access to racing in the afternoon, and a TOBA gift bag.

The TOBA Ownership Seminar will cater to all levels of education, including prospective or new owners, knowledgeable owners and industry professionals, and enthusiasts wanting to continue their education. The seminar is open to the general public.

TOBA offers educational, non-commercial seminars and clinics for prospective, new and established owners. TOBA's goal is to provide industry participants with the knowledge necessary to improve the likelihood for success in the Thoroughbred business.
