Royal 'n Rando gets up to win the Silky Sullivan Stakes a Golden Gate Fields

Grade 1 winner Tamarando  , the leading second crop sire in California in 2021, was represented by his first black-type stakes winner when Royal 'n Rando prevailed by a nose in the $75,000 Silky Sullivan Stakes May 1 at Golden Gate Fields.

Like his sire, Royal 'n Rando  was bred in California and races in the silks of Mr. & Mrs. Larry D. Williams. Trained by Steven Specht and ridden by Frank Alvarado, the gelding Royal 'n Rando was making his stakes debut in the Silky Sullivan. After settling off the early pace, he closed four-wide around the bend and just got up for the win with a strong stretch rally. He raced the mile on a firm turf course in 1:37.28.

Royal 'n Rando earned his fourth win overall from 11 career starts, all of which have come at Golden Gate.

Tamarando earned $722,652 for the Williams, scoring three stakes victories over the all-weather surface. The son of Bertrando claimed top level success as a juvenile in the Del Mar Futurity (G1) while also placing in the Frontrunner Stakes (G1) and CashCall Futurity (G1). He later added wins in the El Camino Real Derby (G3) and Real Quiet Stakes to his resume before retiring as a 6-year-old in 2017.

Tamarando stands at Harris Farms in Coalinga, CA., for a fee of $2,500.
