Gabriel Duignan and Mrs. Charlie O'Connor's Hurricane Debbie , an eight-length winner upon debut April 14 at Keeneland, heads a field of a dozen 2-year-olds for the $200,000 Kentucky Juvenile Stakes May 5 going five furlongs on the main track at Churchill Downs.
Three-time race winner Wesley Ward is no stranger to sending out fillies in open company, and he did so successfully in this race last year to win it with Averly Jane . He sends Hurricane Debbie, a daughter of Brody's Cause , to break from post 11 under John Velazquez.
Four other debut winners from Keeneland are in the field, including the Luis Mendez-trained King Adrock . Owned by Jim Hernandez, King Adrock won the first race of the recently completed spring meet by five lengths and will have Flavien Prat back aboard Thursday from post 3. The others coming off Keeneland scores are Mr. Gordy , Simply Super , and Baytown Lovely .
Also of interest is California shipper Tom's Regret , who broke his maiden by 11 1/2 lengths going 4 1/2 furlongs last out April 15 at Santa Anita Park. The son of Tom's Tribute races for Griffin Stables, Saul Carrilo, Victor M. Flores, and Eugene Zondlo and is trained by Jorge Periban.
Ferrari Kid , winner of a Parx Racing maiden special weight last out upon debut for owner Richard Malouf and trainer Scott Lake, is another out-of-town hopeful.
