Nest, training May 4 a Churchill Downs, is the morning-line favorite for the Kentucky Oaks

Conditions are fast and firm to begin Kentucky Oaks Day on May 6, though for how long remains to be seen.

After a period of rain last evening and this morning, the track has dried out, though weather reports still suggest precipitation is more probable than not as the day wears on. The National Weather Service calls for an 80% chance of showers during the afternoon.

Regardless, fans figure to be out in full force today, eager, as always, for Kentucky Oaks Day, but particularly after the last two years that were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The day was run without fans in 2020 and with a reduced capacity last year.

The only horse scratched from the Oaks is also-eligible Beguine .

For those playing an Oaks/Derby Double or making bets for the May 7 Kentucky Derby card, take note that Ethereal Road  is out of the Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve (G1), opening a spot for Rich Strike  to draw into the race.
