Back with females after a third-place finish in the Arkansas Derby (G1), Briland Farm's Secret Oath swooped past the field with a second-turn rally for a two-length win in the $1.25 million Longines Kentucky Oaks (G1) May 6 at Churchill Downs.
Favored Nest ran second by a half-length, while California raider Desert Dawn edged champion Echo Zulu by the same margin for the show. Kathleen O. was fifth.
The winner raced 1 1/8 miles in 1:49.44 following swift fractions of :22.45, :46.51, and 1:11.44 set by Yuugiri under pressure from Echo Zulu.
Luis Saez rode the winner for Hall of Fame trainer D. Wayne Lukas.
Secret Oath gave Lukas his fifth victory in the Oaks, tying Woody Stevens for most wins by a trainer. Lukas' four prior wins came from 1982-90.
Secret Oath, a 3-year-old daughter of Arrogate , paid $10.80 to win.
