Awesome Slew Sires First Winner in Awesome Strong

In the second race May 6 at Gulfstream Park, Elena Racing's juvenile colt, Awesome Strong , became a winner at first asking and the first winner for freshman sire Awesome Slew  . The Florida-bred filly scored by a commanding six lengths for trainer Jorge Delgado defeating six other juveniles in the maiden special weight going 4 1/2 furlongs on dirt.

Awesome Strong found himself boxed in midway on the turn, moved off the inside to split the leaders approaching the quarter-pole, and went clear into the stretch to pull away from second-place finisher Don't Answer . His final time was :51.62. Awesome Strong paid $4.80 on a $2 wager.

Don't Answer was a neck in front of third-place finisher Captain Creed .

The colt is out of the unraced Pleasant Tap  mare Pleasant Ring and was bred in Florida by John B. Penn. Awesome Strong was consigned by Sue Vacek to the 2021 Ocala Breeders' Sales' October Yearling Sale, selling to Elena Racing for $30,000.

Pleasant Ring is the dam of six winners from her 10 foals, all of which have started. She is the dam of stakes winner, multiple grade 3-placed Bad Debt.

Awesome Slew, a 9-year-old son of Awesome Again , is a multiple graded stakes winner, accumulating $1,223,310 in earnings. He placed third in the 2017 Las Vegas Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile (G1). 

He stands at Ocala Stud for a fee of $4,000 in 2022.
