Clouds, Mild Weather Greet Fans on Kentucky Derby Day

While it would be inaccurate to say the clouds have parted for Kentucky Derby Day 148, an overnight rain in Louisville, Ky. has ceased and no rain is forecast throughout May 7.

As fans trickled into Churchill Downs on a cloudy Saturday morning, they arrived prepared for a day with an anticipated high temperature of 64 degrees. The first race on the 14-race card begins at 10:30 a.m. ET, with the Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve scheduled for 6:57 p.m. with coverage on NBC.

The weekend started on the right foot as Churchill Downs Inc. reported record wagering on Friday's Kentucky Oaks card. In early wagering Friday, TwinSpires.com Louisiana Derby (G2) winner Epicenter  was favored in both the win pool and in the Oaks-Derby double.

The main track is "good" to begin the day and likely to be upgraded to fast. Churchill is declaring the turf course as firm.

Saturday's Churchill card offers seven graded stakes and one overnight stakes. Scratches from those stakes races follow:

Race 11: Old Forester Bourbon Turf Classic Stakes (G1T): 1, Ivar .

Race 12: Kentucky Derby presented by Woodford Reserve (G1): 20, Ethereal Road , and 22, Rattle N Roll .
