Technical Analysis wins the 2021 Lake Placid Stakes at Saratoga Race Course

Klaravich Stables' Technical Analysis  will attempt to earn her third win in a graded stakes May 21 when she takes on six opponents in the $150,000 Gallorette Stakes (G3T) over 1 1/16 miles at Pimlico Race Course.

The 4-year-old daughter of Kingman  won two graded stakes last year when she captured the one-mile Lake George Stakes (G3T) and 1 1/16-mile Lake Placid Stakes (G2T). She attempted to run away with the Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup Stakes Presented by Dixiana (G1T) at Keeneland but was chased down by her stablemate Shantisara  in the stretch and had to settle for second.

Trained by Chad Brown, Technical Analysis made her debut this year in the Plenty of Grace Stakes at Aqueduct Racetrack, where she got caught late by Plum Ali  and was second by half a length. She has been training regularly at Belmont Park and comes into the Gallorette off a five-furlong sharpener May 13 in a bullet 1:01 3/5.

Jose Ortiz, who has ridden Technical Analysis in six of her eight career starts, has the mount. She will break from post 4 carrying 120 pounds.

Technical Analysis' early speed served her well in her two graded stakes wins, but she faces some talented closers in the Gallorette, particularly trainer Graham Motion's Crystal Cliffs . The 5-year-old mare by Canford Cliffs  is a head and a nose from being a three-time black-type winner, having fallen a head short in the Regret Stakes (G3T) and a nose shy in last year's Dahlia Stakes at Pimlico. She began her career in France, where she won her second start in December 2019 by eight lengths. She was sent to the U.S. in the spring of 2020.

Crystal Cliffs comes into the Gallorette off a fine season debut in the Sand Springs Stakes Presented by Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance at Gulfstream Park. She won by 2 3/4 lengths and earned a career-high 110 Equibase Speed Figure. The mare, owned by Michael Dubb, Madaket Stables, and Wonder Stables, will be ridden by Tyler Gaffalione from post 2 and carry 122 pounds.

"She has had some on and off physical issues since she came over from Europe," Motion said. "I have been happy with her since she came back this time. She looks like a bigger, stronger filly."

Effective stalker In a Hurry  will keep the pace scenario interesting. Stuart Janney III's homebred 5-year-old daughter of Blame   placed in last year's Suwannee River Stakes (G3T) at Gulfstream and comes into the Gallorette off a good second in the April 23 Dahlia Stakes, where she overcame a rough and wide trip to be half a length short at the wire to Deciding Vote . In a Hurry is trained by Shug McGaughey and will be ridden from post 5 by Joel Rosario.

"She ran fine (in the Dahlia); she just didn't finish as well as I would have liked," McGaughey said. "She is doing really good, and I am looking forward to running her."
