Description:

America’s Best Racing brand ambassador Jose Contreras – who puts his picks out for the public regularly on his own blog www.losponies.com - will help DerbyJackpot players with his insight in a regular blog feature for ABR.
Each week, Jose will give out his “Best Bet” of the weekend, ideal for a “Monkey Bet” (a win bet) on DerbyJackpot, as well as his Lonshot Play of the weekend, a nice opportunity to swing for the fences on a Monkey Bet or to take a shot with “The Granny” (a show bet, or top-three finish).
Jose also will lay out either a quick-hitting Granny Parlay or a Gonzo Bet. The Granny Parlay essentialy is a bet in which players will have an opportunity to place one Granny bet after another on a sequence of four or five races within an hour or so of each other, essentially letting it ride as they go "all in" search of a nice return on investment. The idea of the parlay is to steadily grow your bankroll until you have a sizeable stash of cash to let it ride on the final leg for a nice payout. The Gonzo Bet requires players to select the first two finishers in a given race in order, the same as a traditional exacta bet.
Place your bets at DerbyJackpot. Races open for betting about five minutes before post time. It’s fun, it’s easy, and you can win cash. Open your account today.

Saturday
(Monkey Bet/Win Bet)
Betfair Hollywood Park, Race 3, $250,000 Hollywood Turf Cup, 4:30 p.m. ET
#1 Artic North: He comes back to his home base after shipping to New York, where he finished sixth (beaten less than three lengths) in his first try against graded stakes competition. He is only making his sixth lifetime start today, and I think he is going to sit a good, mid-pack trip.
Betfair Hollywood Park, Race 7, $150,000 Native Diver, 7:30 p.m. ET
#4 Setsuko: He was last seen running second in the Grade 1 Santa Anita Handicap in March 2012. He's a classy 6-year-old who has performed well when coming off of layoffs. He looks to have some good conditioning coming into this race with a pair of one-mile workouts in addition to two 7-furlong works.

(Exacta Box/Gonzo Bet)
Betfair Hollywood Park, Race 9, $750,000 CashCall Futurity, 7:34 p.m. ET
#1 Electric Eddie: This is an interesting longshot that I think has a shot to hit the board. His speed figures have improved in each one of his starts, and he has taken a step forward when stretching out to route races. He finished a solid second last time out despite having to steady on the turn while having to wait for running room.
#2 Tamarando: He’s already a Grade 1 winner and posted a good win last time out when returning to a synthetic surface. He rallied from last to first to beat Electric Eddie in the Real Quiet Stakes. There seems to be enough early speed in here to set it up for him.
#6 Shared Belief: Two starts and two wins by a combined margin of 14 ¾ lengths is what his record shows. He’s a talented horse who is going around two turns for the first time in his career today. It will be interesting to see what kind of running style he shows in this race.
#13 Kobe’s Back: He won his debut in impressive fashion back in June and came back to run second behind Shared Belief in his most recent start. He tends to break slow and come from the back of the pack with a big closing kick. This will also be his first start around two turns.
Sunday
(Monkey Bets/Win Bets)
Aqueduct, Race 9, 4:12 p.m. ET
#8 Freud’s Debut: I found it interesting that in his 19 career starts, this will be his second try on a dirt surface (the other try was on a wet track). He’s been racing on the turf and has shown some good speed in some of his starts. He looks to train fine on dirt, so let’s give him a shot at odds of 6-to-1.
Betfair Hollywood Park, Race 5, 5:32 p.m. ET
#3 Beautiful Mine: He took a big step forward when moving to the grass and going around two turns. His maiden win at Golden Gate Fields was solid and now he comes to Hollywood and picks up Rafael Bejarano to ride. He will be tough to handle with another improvement in his second start on the grass. I like his odds of 5-to-1.
