Above The Curve Wins Prix Saint-Alary at Longchamp

Description:

Above the Curve paid off her connections' decision to skip next week's Cazoo Oaks handsomely after she landed a game victory in the St Mark's Basilica Coolmore Prix Saint-Alary (G1) at Longchamp May 29.

The Weatherbys Bloodstock Pro Cheshire Oaks Robert Sangster Memorial Cup runner-up was rerouted from Epsom by trainer Joseph O'Brien and broke her top-level duck with a determined success under Ryan Moore, having reeled in early leader Blue Wings  in the home straight, while Place du Carrousel  rattled home to take second.

The daughter of American Pharoah   was cut to 4-1 (from 7) for the Prix de Diane next month by Betfair and Paddy Power, while she was also trimmed to 6-1 (from 8) by both firms for the Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot.

"She's a lovely filly who is still learning," Moore said." A steady pace didn't really suit and she was a bit idle in front, but she was always doing what she had to. She's a huge girl and there's still a lot of potential and improvement to come."

Above The Curve's success was more group 1 glory for trainer O'Brien at Longchamp this month, having won the Prix Ganay (G1) with State of Rest  May 1.
