Uncle Mo's First Starter, Outwork, Wins Debut

Description:

Freshman sire Uncle Mo   wasted no time in picking up his first winner when his first starter Outwork won by 2 1/4 lengths in a 4 1/2-furlong maiden race debut on Thursday, April 23 at Keeneland .

Appropriately enough, Outwork is a homebred for Mike Repole's Repole Stables, is trained by Todd Pletcher, and was guided to victory by John Velazquez. Repole campaigned Uncle Mo, who earned champion 2-year-old male honors following his victories in the 2010 Champagne Stakes (gr. I) and Grey Goose Breeders' Cup Juvenile (gr. I). Uncle Mo was trained by Pletcher and guided to victory in all three of his juvenile starts by Velazquez.

In Thursday's maiden race, Outwork was asked for some early run by Velazquez but settled into stride once he had the lead. Outwork was challenged in the stretch by Susan Magnier, Michael Tabor, Derrick Smith, and Ice Wine Stable's Finnegan but he put that one away to secure the victory. Outwork completed 4 1/2 furlongs in :52.79 on a fast track.

Uncle Mo stands for $25,000 at Ashford Stud near Versailles, Ky.
