Spendthrift Farm's freshman sire Archarcharch got on the board in a big way April 23 at Keeneland, when 2-year-old filly Tia Flor became his first winner with a 9 1/4-length victory against one other filly and five other males in a 4 1/2-furlong maiden special weight event .
Tia Flor showed sharp speed before drawing away from her counterparts in the stretch in Keeneland's nightcap, hitting the wire all alone in :52.63 over a fast main track. The dark bay filly has earnings of $31,500 for trainer Marco Castaneda and owner Eladio Acevedo.
Bred by Doug and Felicia Branham through Spendthrift's "Share The Upside" Program, Tai Flor is the first foal out of the Smart Strike mare Concert Strike, a daughter of stakes winner Phyllis Sassy Girl.
Archarcharch, a grade I-winning son of Arch , captured his biggest victory in the $1 million Arkansas Derby (gr. I) and retired to Spendthrift in 2012 with earnings of $832,744. He's standing the 2015 breeding season at Spendthrift for a fee of $9,000 through Spendthrift's Breed Secure Program, or $5,000 stands and nurses.
