Americanrevolution had the grade 1 qualifications of Hall of Fame trainer Todd Pletcher's two entrants in the $198,750 Blame Stakes at Churchill Downs June 4, but Dynamic One had the fitness.
It showed Saturday in the 1 1/8-mile race that serves as a prep toward the $750,000 Stephen Foster Stakes (G2) run July 2 at Churchill. Dynamic One prevailed over Proxy , while Americanrevolution weakened to fourth in his season debut.
Repole Stable, Phipps Stable, and St. Elias Stable's Dynamic One, whose only prior start at Churchill resulted in an 18th-place finish in the 2021 Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve (G1), fared far better beneath the Twin Spires as a 4-year-old.
The son of Union Rags raced in sixth early as Santos Dumont established splits of :47.42 and 1:11.73, then passed five horses to grab the lead in midstretch and go on for a length victory. He raced 1 1/8 miles on a fast track in 1:48.54, paying $14.80 to win.
"He took the kickback really well and had a powerful kick down the lane," said leading rider Tyler Gaffalione, who won four races Saturday at Churchill Downs. "It set up perfectly for him and he came rolling late."
Proxy, who stalked the pace before falling back, showed renewed interest late to catch Ben Ali Stakes (G3) winner Scalding by a neck for the place.
Americanrevolation, unraced since winning the Cigar Mile Handicap Presented by NYRA Bets (G1) in December at Aqueduct Racetrack, was beaten three lengths by the winner after pressing the early leaders on the outside.
Santos Dumont, Super Stock , and Militarist completed the order of finish.
Stu Hampson, assistant to trainer Todd Pletcher, said Dynamic One "ran a heck of a race this afternoon."
Pletcher, who watched the race from his base in New York, was similarly pleased with the winner's performance.
"This was always 'Plan A' for Dynamic One. Unfortunately we didn't get the race for Americanrevolution to go," Pletcher said, referring to the one-mile Commentator Stakes for New York-breds May 30 at Belmont Park that had been the initial target. "I was concerned running him a mile and an eighth off the layoff and that may have caught up with him in the last part. Hopefully it will bring him forward. He's a better horse than that."
Dynamic Won notched his third victory and second stakes win in 11 starts in Saturday's Blame, having previously won the restricted Curlin Stakes last summer at Saratoga Race Course. He has hit the board in three graded stakes, twice this year and once as a 3-year-old when narrowly beaten in the Wood Memorial Presented by Resorts World Casino (G2).
Bred in Kentucky by Phipps Stable, Dynamic One was a $725,000 purchase by Repole Stable and St. Elias Sable at the 2019 September Yearling Sale at Keeneland from the Claiborne Farm consignment. He is the lone winner from four foals of racing age produced from the Smart Strike mare Beat the Drums . Among her half dozen foals are a yearling colt by Ghostzapper and a filly by Street Sense born this year.
Dynamic One's second dam is Storm Flag Flying, the champion 2-year-old filly of 2002 for the late Ogden Mills Phipps.
She's All Wolfe Springs Shawnee Upset
Dismissed at 20-1 odds in the $179,500 Shawnee Stakes against a graded-quality field earlier on Saturday, Oklahoma-bred She's All Wolfe proved she is still a mare with bite.
Surging outside down the stretch under Francisco Arrieta, she rallied from last to defeat frontrunning Ava's Grace , Army Wife , and heavily favored Pauline's Pearl . In a race in which the public expected last-out winner La Troienne Stakes Presented by Signify Health (G1) to win—She's All Wolfe prevailed by 1 1/4 lengths, returning $42.40 to win in the five-horse field.
"She's run good all year. We've been trying to get that open stakes win for her, and thank goodness, it happened today," trainer Donnie Von Hemel said. "Pauline's Pearl—we were a little apprehensive about her being in there but thought like she could compete with the rest of them. She just ran a super race today."
Arrieta agreed, noting that his mount finished well in the second half of the race after she encountered traffic into the first of two turns.
"I got in trouble. I almost clipped heels. I had to take a little back," he said.

Ava's Grace, who drifted out while tiring down the stretch, held second by three-quarters of a length over Army Wife, who made her first start of the year in the Shawnee. Pauline's Pearl ran a flat fourth, beaten 2 1/2 lengths for the win, well clear of Temper Time in fifth.
She's All Wolfe, a 5-year-old daughter of Magna Graduate , completed 1 1/16 miles in 1:43.34 following moderate fractions of :23.49, :47.56, and 1:11.85 set by Ava's Grace. The victory improved the winner to 8-for-25 and elevated her earnings to $595,411 for owner/breeder Robert Zoellner.
She's All Wolfe, previously a stakes winner in Oklahoma-bred company and graded stakes-placed, scored her most significant win in the Shawnee. In her prior start she finished fifth, beaten more than 10 lengths, in the May 6 La Troienne.
The Shawnee serves as a local prep for the $350,000 Fleur de Lis Stakes (G2) at Churchill July 2.
She's All Wolfe's dam, She's All In (Include ), ran third in the 2013 Fleur de Lis during a graded-winning career in which she made $1,102,489 for Zoeller and Von Hemel. She is the dam of five foals, four of racing age, with She's All Wolfe her sole winner and starter. The dam's youngest produce is a yearling filly by More Than Ready .
