We the People , blowout winner of the Peter Pan Stakes (G3), was made the 2-1 morning-line favorite against Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve (G1) winner Rich Strike and six other 3-year-olds in the $1.5 million Belmont Stakes Presented by NYRA Bets (G1) June 11 at Belmont Park.
The rail-drawn Constitution colt looms as the controlling speed of the Belmont in a 1 1//2-mile test largely filled with horses most accustomed to racing well from off the pace. Flavien Prat rides for trainer Rodolphe Brisset and owners WinStar Farm, CMNWLTH, Siena Farm, and celebrity chef Bobby Flay. The latter acquired an interest in the Constitution colt leading up to the Belmont.
Mo Donegal , who ran down eventual Preakness Stakes (G1) winner Early Voting to win the Wood MemorialStakes Presented by Resorts World Casino (G2) and finished fifth in the Derby, is the 5-2 second favorite for the "Test of the Champion," the third and final leg of the Triple Crown and contested at the longest distance of the series at 1 1/2 miles on dirt. Irad Ortiz Jr. rides for owners Donegal Racing and Repole Stable from post 6.
Rich Strike, winner of the Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve (G1) for Rick Dawson's RED TR-Racing, drew post 4 and is the 7-2 third choice on the morning line. Derby-winning jockey Sonny Leon remains aboard the 3-year-old son of Keen Ice for trainer Eric Reed.
Nest seeks to become the first filly to win the Belmont since Rags To Riches in 2007 for three-time Belmont Stakes-winning trainer Todd Pletcher, who also runs Mo Donegal. Jose Ortiz picks up the ride on Nest, who races for Repole Stable, Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners, and Michael House.
