Stonestreet Stables' homebred Clairiere earned her first grade 1 victory as a 4-year-old and second overall June 11 when she turned back Malathaat to take the $500,000 Ogden Phipps Stakes (G1) at Belmont Park.
Clairiere and jockey Joel Rosario wore down Malathaat in the final strides of the 1 1/16-mile test after they ran past Search Results in late stretch.
Search Results did the dirty work in the Ogden Phipps, pressing the pace set by favored Letruska and wearing out that rival before sprinting away at the top of the lane. It looked as though Search Results had the race in the bag, but the final sixteenth of a mile told a different tale as Clairiere and Malathaat loomed with late rallies and Search Results settled for third.
After the top three came Bonny South and Letruska, who set fractions of :22.75 and :45.23 before fading.
The final time was 1:41.10 on a fast track.
