Grenadier Guards leads Shahryar at Roger Varian's Carlburg Stables in Newmarket

Shahryar , the 2021 Tokyo Yushun Japanese Derby (G1) and recent Longines Dubai Sheema Classic (G1T) victor is ready to show his best in the June 15 Prince of Wales's Stakes (G1), seeking to become the first Japanese-trained winner at the Royal Ascot meet.

Trainer Hideaki Fujiwara's star arrived in the United Kingdom May 31, along with Grenadier Guards, intended runner in the Platinum Jubilee Stakes (G1) June 18 for trainer Mitsu Nakauchida and owned by the same racing partnership as Shahryar, Sunday Racing Co. Both horses have been based at Roger Varian's Carlburg Stable in Newmarket since their arrival.

The 4-year-old Deep Impact  colt breezed June 11 on the Golden Mile Gallop, going six furlongs with Cristian Demuro, who guided Shahryar to the winners' circle in Meydan March 26 and has the return ride June 15.

"I am sure he is in top form, as he was in March at Dubai. Shahryar is a well-balanced horse and I believe he handles the track at Ascot well," the Italian jockey said when asked about the undulating course.

Bay Bridge , who won the Coral Brigadier Gerard Stakes (G3) at Sandown May 26 by five lengths, is the 5-4 favorite for the Prince of Wales's. Shahryar, at 3-1, is the second favorite for the feature race on the second day of the Platinum Jubilee.
