Horseshoe Indianapolis will hold its regularly scheduled races June 13 but has canceled its Tuesday card due to the heat index forecasted to be around 110 degrees Fahrenheit.

"The safety of our equine athletes and those who are involved in the racing program is always at the forefront of our concerns," said Eric Halstrom, vice president and general manager of racing. "We are taking the proper steps to ensure everyone involved in conducting our racing program is safe from the anticipated temperatures on Tuesday."

At this time, racing will resume Wednesday, June 15, at 2:25 p.m. Officials will continue to monitor the expected heat indexes for Central Indiana over the next few days.

Indianapolis is under heat advisories from noon to 9 p.m. ET Monday and from 11 a.m. Tuesday through 9 p.m. Wednesday. Weather.com reports heat indexes up to 108 degrees are expected. A heat advisory from the National Weather Service is in effect across the Midwest from New Orleans to northwest Wisconsin and from central Nebraska and across Kentucky.
