Home Brew wins the Oaklawn Stakes at Oaklawn Park

A year ago, Kentucky-based trainer Brad Cox brought Mandaloun  to Monmouth Park, winning both the TVG.com Pegasus Stakes and TVG.com Haskell Stakes (G1) there, the latter by disqualification.

Now Cox is back in the 1 1/16-mile, $150,000 Pegasus with Home Brew , though the 3-year-old does not have Mandaloun's qualifications. While Juddmonte's Mandaloun crossed the wire second in last year's Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve (G1) before being elevated to first this year with Medina Spirit 's disqualification, Home Brew has won just the ungraded April 23 Oaklawn Stakes in black-type events.

The conditions provided him with an automatic berth in the May 21 Preakness Stakes (G1) at Pimlico Race Course, but Cox chose to pass the second jewel of the Triple Crown.

A homebred for owners Gary and Mary West, the son of Street Sense   is a winner of three of five starts and $203,625.

Mandaloun's regular rider, Florent Geroux has the mount.

Home Brew gets a rematch with Dash Attack , who beat him in the Jan. 1 Smarty Jones Stakes over a sloppy track at Oaklawn Park. Following that race, Dash Attack went unplaced in three graded stakes before he resumed winning when racing over another sloppy surface in the Long Branch Stakes at Monmouth May 14.

Kenny McPeek trains the son of Munnings   for Catalyst Stable, Magdalena Racing, Kevin Pollard, and Patty Slevin. 

Cyberviking , Mr. Jefferson , Electability , and Cooke Creek  are other contenders in the nine-horse field.
