

With high temperatures and elevated heat indexes projected again next week, Horseshoe Indianapolis is being proactive and will move first race post times to 6:45 p.m. CT for racing June 21-23.
Post times for Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday's program will begin after the heat of the day. All handicapping contests offered will also move to the evening hours. Racing will be held at the regularly scheduled time Monday, June 20, beginning at 2:30 p.m.
Post times are expected to move back to the regular schedule of 2:30 p.m. Monday, June 27.
Horseshoe Indianapolis canceled its Tuesday, June 14 card because a heat index of 100 was projected and the region was under a heat advisory.
Racetracks throughout the Midwest have been struggling to manage their programs with heat indexes soaring into triple digits.
Churchill Downs cancelled an eight-race program for Thursday and is schedule to resume racing Friday, June 17 at 12:45 p.m. ET, though track officials said they are monitoring the forecast. Any decision to cancel is made in consultation with Churchill Downs' medical director.
The cancellation is the 23rd in the track's history and the second in as many days. The June 15 card also was cancelled due to excessive heat.
