Tattersalls has announced a select session for the December Mares Sale to be named the Sceptre Session after the Tattersalls record-breaking graduate of 1900 who remains the only filly to win four British classics.
The session will be held during the second day of the sale, which traditionally boasts the best catalog of the event, and will be limited to a maximum of 75 fillies and mares. Entries for the Sceptre Session will consist of high-class fillies and mares off the track, well-bred broodmare prospects, and those in foal to elite stallions.
It will be the highlight of day two of the four-day sale, which has the distinction of setting the European record for a Thoroughbred sold at public auction when Elite Racing Club's homebred group 1 winner Marsha commanded a figure of 6 million guineas (US$8,491,140) to M.V. Magnier in 2017.
Edmond Mahony, chairman of Tattersalls, said: "Sceptre was one of the most outstanding fillies ever to grace the turf and is inextricably linked with the rich history of Tattersalls and specifically Somerville Tattersall who himself owned the great mare for a short while.
"The new Sceptre Session will feature the very best race fillies and broodmares and add a new dimension to a sale which is already long established as the most prestigious showcase of world class breeding stock in Europe."
