Two Emmys , who pulled off a frontrunning upset in the Mr. D. Stakes (G1T) last summer at Arlington International Racecourse, makes his Chicago-area racing return June 25 as the favorite in the $75,000 Outbound Ike Stakes June 25 at Hawthorne Race Course.
The Outbound Ike, a 1 1/16-mile turf race, comes on closing day of Hawthorne's spring Thoroughbred meet before the track readies for a Standardbred meet. There is no summer Thoroughbred racing in Chicago this year after the closure of Arlington.
Last year, Wolfe Racing and Hugh Robertson's Two Emmys outlasted Domestic Spending in the Mr. D., which had a name change last year from the Arlington Million and a purse reduction to $600,000. This year, the Arlington Million is scheduled to be run for $1 million Aug. 13 at Churchill Downs. Turf racing at Churchill has not taken place over the past two weeks due to issues with its new grass course.
Two Emmys is 1-for-5 since the Mr. D. last August, taking the Muniz Memorial Classic Stakes Presented by Horse Racing Nation (G2T) at Fair Grounds Race Course in Slots March 26. Most recently, he weakened to seventh in the April 23 Elkhorn Stakes (G2T) at Keeneland.
Marcelino Pedroza Jr. rides Saturday for Robertson, who also trains Two Emmys. The 6-year-old English Channel gelding carries high weight of 125 pounds, spotting his rivals three to seven pounds.
The seven-horse Outbound Ike also includes graded winners Current , Bizzee Channel , and Captivating Moon
