Army Wife wins the 2021 Iowa Oaks at Prairie Meadows

Army Wife  makes her second run of 2022 June 25 as the narrow morning-line favorite in the $250,000 Lady Jacqueline Stakes for older fillies and mares at Thistledown. She is projected to be 3-1 in the 1 1/8-mile dirt race, ahead of Maracuja  at 4-1.

Army Wife has hit the board in her last eight races, most recently a third-place finish in the June 4 Shawnee Stakes at Churchill Downs. The daughter of Declaration of War  is looking to build off of a promising 2021 in which she ran in six graded stakes, registering wins in the George E. Mitchell Black-Eyed Susan Stakes (G2) and Iowa Oaks (G3). The Mike Maker trainee, owned by Three Diamonds Farm, also posted third-place finishes in grade 1 company in the Alabama and Cotillon stakes.

Meanwhile, the Rob Atras-trained Maracuja, who races for owners Beach Haven Thoroughbreds, Medallion Racing, Parkland Thoroughbreds and Barry Fowler, was part of the field in those grade 1s, finishing seventh in the Alabama and fourth in the Cotillion, just behind Army Wife. An upset winner over champion Malathaat  in last year's Coaching Club American Oaks (G1), Maracuja has run twice this year, both times at Oaklawn Park. The Honor Code   filly won an allowance optional claiming race April 1 and then was fourth in the April 23 Apple Blossom Handicap (G1).

Other leading entrants include Crazy Beautiful , Take Charge Lorin , Candlelight Hours , and Microcap .
